]]>Hey there, adventurous parents! It's Louisa from Kooshy Kids. Today, I'm diving deep into the marvellous, eye-opening world of travel—specifically, why it's incredibly enriching for your kids. We all love the thrill of exploring a new destination, but have you considered the invaluable lessons your children glean from these experiences?
Let’s unpack the top 10 educational benefits of travelling with your youngsters.
New environments stimulate the senses in ways that the daily routine simply can't. The unfamiliarity fuels your child's natural curiosity, encouraging questions, observations, and active participation in the world around them. This nurtured curiosity eventually transitions into a love for learning and exploration that serves them well in educational settings.
Walking through a bustling local market or participating in traditional festivals can provide profound cultural insights. These experiences not only enhance your child's understanding of the world but also instil a deep-rooted respect for diversity. They become aware that the world is a large, multifaceted place, encouraging empathy and open-mindedness.
Interacting with locals, even in a limited way, exposes your child to different languages and dialects. While they may not become fluent overnight, this exposure stimulates cognitive development, enhances listening skills, and can even improve their grasp on their native language by understanding contrasts and structures.
Unexpected hiccups are part and parcel of travel. From weather changes to delayed flights, your child learns to adapt, improvise, and find solutions. These challenges build resilience and equip them with coping mechanisms they'll use throughout their lives.
Whether it's an impromptu geography lesson while looking at mountain ranges or understanding the ecosystem of a beach, nature becomes an interactive classroom. These tangible experiences can be far more impactful than reading about it in a textbook.
Travelling often involves meeting new people. Whether it’s striking up a conversation with another kid at a resort or saying hello to a local shopkeeper, these interactions boost their social skills. It helps them understand social cues, enhances their conversational abilities, and often results in making new friends.
Simple travel tasks like carrying their backpack or being the designated map-reader for the day can instil a sense of responsibility. It helps them feel involved and important, which in turn enhances their decision-making skills and self-confidence.
In our fast-paced lives, it's easy to let quality family time slip through the cracks. Travel gives you a chance to pause, focus on each other, and share unique experiences that strengthen your familial bonds.
Tasks that seem mundane to us, like checking into a hotel or ordering food in a foreign language, are big achievements for a child. Each of these small milestones contributes to their sense of independence and self-reliance, essential skills for their growth and development.
The spirit of adventure and curiosity fostered by travel can translate into an enthusiasm for learning in general. It makes them question, explore, and seek answers, turning them into lifelong learners with a thirst for knowledge and discovery.
So the next time you ponder the pros and cons of family travel, remember: the experiences and lessons your child gains are irreplaceable. They're not just seeing new places; they're growing, learning, and becoming global citizens. How amazing is that?
Happy travels, everyone!

]]>Hey there! Louisa from Kooshy Kids here, just back from an unforgettable adventure in Bali. Picture this: I'm sipping a coconut on a serene Balinese beach, and my kids are building what they claim to be the world's best sandcastle nearby. It's moments like these that make all the travel prep worth it! But let's be real – as magical as these moments are, I always have a little flutter of anxiety about keeping them safe on our journeys.
Every trip, including our latest Balinese escapade, teaches me something new about family travel safety, either from my own experiences or tales from other parents. So, I'm excited to share my top safety tips with you, hoping to ease any travel worries you might have too. Let’s dive into the world of smart and safe travel with kids!
Do Your Research
Start by delving into the specifics your destination. Look at government travel advisory websites (e.g. Smart Traveller), hop onto forums, and read up on experiences from other travelling families. Knowing the local customs, dos and don'ts, and places to steer clear of is a game-changer.
Prep for Medical Emergencies
Alright, first things first – never leave home without a good old first aid kit. It's your mini medical center while on the go.
Here’s what I pack in mine:
But remember, this kit isn't a substitute for a doctor. Always seek medical attention when needed and tailor the kit to your family’s health needs and destination, I am certainly not a medical professional.
Pro tip 1: For kids with allergies or medical conditions, have a document explaining everything in the local language. Super handy in restaurants and for medical emergencies.
Pro tip 2: Get a doctor's letter explaining any medications in the local language to avoid issues at customs.
Also, know where the nearest reputable hospital or clinic is at your destination – it can be a real lifesaver.
Secure Accommodation
Choose your stay wisely. Look for places that are family-friendly, secure, and have great reviews from other families. Check TripAdvisor, verified reviews on the hotel's website, and booking platforms like Booking.com.
Here are some extra safety measures I take (might seem a bit much, but better safe than sorry!):
Trackers & Tattoos
As my kids have gotten older, Apple Watches have been a godsend – I can track them, and they can reach me or emergency services if needed.
No smartwatch? Try Airtags or MyFind Tags (Kooshy Kids stocks them) that can clip to their backpacks or pockets. Track them with the FindMy App.
Before this tech, I used to write my phone number on their arms with a sharpie when we were at theme parks or crowded places.
Food and Water Safety
The allure of street food can be tempting, but the last thing you want is a child sick from food poisoning. Stick to recommended eateries, and if in doubt, always opt for fully cooked foods.
Educate your kids about not accepting treats from strangers, and ensure they understand the importance of drinking bottled water and avoid ice in certain destinations.
Maintain Routine
While exploring is fun, keeping some routine is key for kids. Stick to regular meal times, schedule rest periods, and ensure they get enough sleep. A rested child is alert and happier – important in unfamiliar places.
Consider bringing a familiar item from home (like a small toy or a bedtime book) to help your kids feel comfortable and maintain routines in a new environment.
Dress Brightly and Identically
When exploring crowded places, dress your kids in bright, identical outfits. It makes it easier to spot them in a crowd and if they wander off, you can describe exactly what they're wearing.
Ensure their clothing is comfortable and appropriate for the local weather and activities.
Safe Transportation
Use reputable transportation services. Research the safest modes of transport in your destination, and if possible, book them in advance. I always arrange an airport transfer over a Taxi in foreign countries, I feel safer knowing Ill be met at the airport by my driver and escorted to their car and taken to the correct hotel. It will be more expensive than an Uber or equivalent, but it's something I do if I'm not familiar with the location and transport services.
Don't forget to double-check the vehicle's safety features (like child seats) when booking transportation.
Cultural Awareness
Educate your kids about the local culture and customs. It's a great learning experience and helps them respect the places you visit. Learning a few key phrases in the local language with your kids, as a fun and respectful way to engage with the culture.
Sometimes kids do not have a filter and they may unintentionally offend the locals with comments or behaviours, so I always try to teach them acceptable and unacceptable behaviour and inappropriate words for the location.
Travel Insurance
I always opt for Covermore and purchase the annual global family policy every year.
Travelling with kids internationally can be an amazing experience. With these tips, I hope that you can relax a bit more, knowing you're doing your best to keep your family safe.
Happy travels, families!

Direct Flights to Japan from Australia:
Flying to Japan with your family has never been easier, thanks to a variety of airlines offering direct flights from major cities in Australia.
Here's a list of airlines that can take you on this unforgettable family adventure and that accept the use of the Kooshy Kids Kooshion:
Yet to officially approve the Kooshy Kids Kooshion, but okay to use the Kooshy Kloud:
]]>Strap in (or onto your cushions!) as we dive into the wacky and wonderful world of Kooshy Kids Kooshion uses that go WAY beyond just keeping your kiddos comfy on flights.
Guess what? Kooshions aren’t just for kids! I'm bombarded with pics of adults using Kooshions on flights, and honestly, I'm here for it. Forget the kids, pack it for YOUR comfort!
Turn that Kooshion into the work footrest of your dreams! Inflation is key – go wild with 1/3, 2/3, or full blast for those tootsies.
Bring your Kooshion to the beach and voilà – instant comfort for your feet or noggin. Perfect for keeping an eye on the kiddos or just zoning out to the sound of waves.
Trains, boats, ferries – they’re all better with a Kooshion. Trust me, your bum, feet and sanity will thank you.
Got two Kooshions? Double them up in your car’s foot space – pets can't sneak under, and they get a 'Kooshy' ride. Trust me, they’ll love you more for it and you'll not have to worry about them getting stuck under the seat, or surprising you on the accelerator or break.
Need extra seating? Pump up your Kooshion and bam – instant chair or couch extension. Your guests will thank you (or fight over it).
Dealing with blood clot issues? The Kooshion is gentle yet supportive for elevating those limbs, aiding comfort and circulation...simply take it and the pump with you wherever you go for convenient elevation.
Many of our customers with blot clot issues use these on flights (some airlines will even give special permission when usually not approved if you can provide a doctor's letter).
Say goodbye to uncomfortable camping and hello to Kooshion luxury. Footrest by the campfire? Check. Comfy seat for picnics? Double check.
Kooshion in the car = No more toy chaos. It's like a magical barrier for all the snack crumbs and toy soldiers. It's also super comfy for the kids...and if you're like me and pop your feet on the dashboard...you can use the Kooshion on the floor of the front passenger seat..perfect for snoozing whilst he is driving. 🙈
We have also had a lot of positive feedback from parents with children with disabilities that using the Kooshion in the car was a Godsend. If you know of anyone that may benefit..let them know!
Trains, boats, ferries – they’re all better with a Kooshion. Trust me, your bum and feet will thank you.
Okay, don’t get too excited – it’s not actually a trampoline and should not be jumped on. But the kids can wiggle and giggle on it (with supervision, of course!). Just check out my hilarious demo video where I show off the Kooshion’s Hulk-like strength (and have a little laugh at a certain competitor 😉).
The back story:
This video was filmed after a competitor made a comment on socials that Kooshy Kids was cheap quality and would burst because it was made from PVC.
Knowing that this couldn't be further from the truth, I jumped with my full body weight and surfed on it lol, demonstrating the product’s strength and quality.
Funny story…that same competitor/brand (whose name shall remain a mystery 😉) has since jumped on the PVC bandwagon and switched their core material from Nylon to PVC! Talk about being left with a red face! 🍅 It seems they've finally seen the light, or should I say, the durability of PVC. I guess imitation really is the sincerest form of flattery – or in this case, a case of 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em!' 🎭💁♀️
Got germs and/or puncture fears? Our universal cushion cover has got your Kooshion’s back (and bottom). It fits ours and even those other brand cushions (we don’t judge). Grab one before they vanish!
...we don’t have many left in stock though so if you would like to order, I suggest you get in quick and shop it here!
So, there you have it – the Kooshy Kids Kooshion isn’t just a travel accessory; it’s a lifestyle enhancer for just about anywhere and anyone. It folds up super compact and takes next to no time to inflate and deflate. Got yours yet? If not, what are you waiting for? 🚀

Travelling to the vibrant streets of New York with your family is made convenient by airlines offering one-stop flights from major Australian cities.

New York offers an unparalleled blend of excitement, culture, and adventure, catering to families with diverse interests and budgets.

]]>Mapping out a family holiday can sometimes feel much like piecing together a complex puzzle. There are so many elements to consider – from accommodations to transportation, and of course, the all-important itinerary. But fear not, fellow wanderers!
Crafting a kid-friendly itinerary that strikes the perfect balance between fun and education is entirely achievable. Let's dive in.
Step 1: Discover Their Interests
Before you even start plotting out your itinerary, take some time to uncover your child's interests. Are they fascinated by animals, history, art, or adventure? Tailoring your activities to their passions will keep them engaged and excited throughout the trip. If they love animals, consider visiting a local zoo, marine sanctuary, or even a farm-to-table experience where they can learn about farm life and interact with animals.
Step 2: Mix Education with Play
Learning doesn't have to be boring. Look for attractions that combine education with interactive experiences. Museums with hands-on exhibits, guided nature walks, and historical sites with engaging guides can make learning feel like a thrilling adventure. For instance, at a science museum, your kids can experiment with interactive displays that teach them about physics and biology while they're having a blast.
Step 3: Embrace Flexibility
While having a structured plan is helpful, leave room for flexibility. Kids are unpredictable, and sometimes the unexpected detours can lead to the most memorable moments. Allow for spontaneous ice cream breaks, impromptu playground visits, or lingering at a fascinating spot. Perhaps you stumble upon a local festival during your travels that becomes a highlight of the trip.
Step 4: Pace Yourself
Remember, you're on a holiday, not a race. Avoid overloading your days with activities. Instead, sprinkle in a mix of sightseeing, playtime, and downtime. A leisurely afternoon at a park can be just as enriching as a museum visit. Take the time to savour the little moments, like watching your kids explore a beach, collect seashells, and create sandcastles.
Step 5: Keep the Energy Up
Hungry and tired kids can quickly turn a happy outing into a meltdown. Plan regular breaks for meals and snacks to keep everyone's energy levels up. This also provides opportunities to chat about the day's adventures and make plans for what's next. Enjoying a local cuisine together not only refuels your energy, but also exposes your children to new flavours and cultural experiences.
Step 6: Destination Exploration: Let the Adventure Unfold
Whether you're traversing the stunning landscapes of New Zealand, exploring the ancient ruins of Greece, or embarking on an urban adventure in New York City, crafting a kid-friendly itinerary is all about finding that sweet spot between learning and laughter. Every destination holds its own array of family-friendly experiences, from wildlife encounters and historical landmarks to interactive museums and culinary escapades.
So, dust off your travel planner, and with your children's interests as your guide, create a journey that will leave your little explorers wide-eyed and eager for more.
As you strike that harmonious balance between fun and education, you'll find that your family holiday becomes an enriching adventure that creates lifelong memories.
]]>Let's face it, airport layovers can be the travel equivalent of waiting for water to boil – time seems to slow down, and boredom can set in faster than you can say "are we there yet?" But fear not, family travellers! With a dash of creativity and a sprinkle of planning, you can transform those seemingly endless layovers into memorable moments of family fun.
1. Airport Scavenger Hunt: A Journey Within a Journey
Why not turn the airport terminal into a treasure trove of discovery? Engage your kids' imagination by creating a list of items for them to find – a pilot's hat, a suitcase with a red ribbon, a souvenir from the destination – and let the hunt begin. This not only keeps the little ones engaged but also adds an element of excitement to the waiting game. Snap a photo of each discovery to create a lasting memento of your unique airport adventure.
2. Cultural Cuisine Adventure: A Taste of Wanderlust
Use the layover as an opportunity to introduce your kids to new tastes from around the world. Explore the airport's food options together and challenge your family to try a dish from a different cuisine. Whether it's sushi from a Japanese restaurant or a delicious falafel wrap from a Middle Eastern eatery, it's a tasty way to embrace the spirit of travel and broaden your child's culinary horizons. Capture their reactions as they take that first bite – a memory you can relive with laughter and smiles.
3. Storytime Spectacular: Escaping into a World of Imagination
Pack a couple of their favourite books or pick up a new one from the airport bookstore. Find a cosy corner, away from the hustle and bustle, and settle in for a storytime session. This not only passes the time but also creates a quiet, bonding moment amid the airport chaos. Encourage your kids to let their imaginations run wild as the words on the page transport them to far-off lands and exciting adventures.
4. Play and Stretch: Letting Off Steam
Many airports now have designated play areas for kids. Let your little ones burn off some energy by exploring these spaces, which often include climbing structures, slides, and interactive games. It's a win-win – they get to have fun, and you get to enjoy a brief moment of reprieve. Remember to capture their smiles as they conquer the playground, a snapshot of pure joy in the midst of travel.
5. Plane Spotting: Dreams Take Flight
If your layover allows for it, find a spot with a good view of the runways. Watch planes take off and land, and let your kids' imaginations take flight. Discuss the destinations the planes are headed to, and encourage your kids to dream about the places they'd like to visit someday. These moments of wonder and curiosity can be captured in candid photos that reflect the magic of travel.
Remember, the key to surviving an airport layover with kids is to view it as an opportunity for adventure.
Embrace the unexpected, capture the special moments through photos, and turn waiting time into quality time with your loved ones.
]]>Hey jet-setting parents!
If you're anything like me, you probably know how challenging it can be to deal with jet lag when travelling with your little ones.
But fear not, because I've got you covered with some tried and tested tips to keep those tiny tots' body clocks ticking happily, so you can enjoy your adventure to the fullest!
Gradual Time Adjustment
Before embarking on your journey, try to adjust your child's sleep schedule slowly. A few days before your trip, nudge their bedtime and wake-up time closer to your destination's time zone. This may not completely prevent jet lag, but it can certainly ease the transition.
Stay Hydrated
During the flight, make sure your child drinks plenty of water. Staying hydrated can help regulate their body clock and combat the effects of changing time zones.
Bring Familiar Comforts
Pack some of your child's favourite toys, blankets, or books to create a sense of familiarity and comfort during the journey. Having these familiar items around can help soothe them when things feel a bit disorienting.
Daytime Sun Exposure
Upon arrival, spend as much time outdoors in natural light as possible. Sunlight helps reset the body's internal clock and signals that it's time to be awake.
Power Naps
If your little one gets too drowsy during the day, allow short power naps to prevent them from becoming overly tired and cranky.
Stay Calm
Remember, it's a temporary phase. Your child may be fussy or restless during the adjustment period, but staying patient and calm will help both of you get through it.
Follow Routine
Once you're back home, try to return to your child's regular sleep schedule as soon as possible. Consistency is key!
Gradual Transition
If there's a significant time difference, gradually shift their bedtime and waking time back to their usual routine over a few days.
Bedtime Rituals
Reinforce familiar bedtime rituals like reading a book, singing their fave song, or having a calm chat. These cues will signal that it's time to wind down and sleep.
Limit Screen Time
Avoid screens at least an hour before bedtime, as they can interfere with your child's ability to fall asleep.
Maintain Daytime Activity
Encourage daytime activities and play to help regulate their body clock further.
Lead by Example
As parents, we often forget to take care of ourselves during hectic travel. Prioritise your own sleep and health, as your well-being impacts your child's experience too.
Adjust Your Schedule
If possible, try to adjust your own sleep schedule to match your destination's time zone before the trip. This way, you'll be better prepared to support your little one.
Be Flexible
Understand that it might take a few days for everyone to adjust, so be flexible with your plans during the initial transition period.
Create a Relaxing Environment
Choose accommodation that offer a soothing atmosphere if possible, making it easier for both you and your child to rest peacefully.
Patience is Key
Jet lag can be tough on toddlers and parents alike, but remember that it's a natural part of travel. Give yourself and your child time to adapt and don't be too hard on yourself.
There you have it, my ultimate jet lag survival guide for toddlers!
With these tips up your sleeve, hopefully you'll be better equipped to tackle jet lag and make the most of your adventures together.
Safe travels, and remember to have fun exploring the world with your little one by your side!
Bon voyage! 🌍✈️

]]>I want to share an eye-opening experience that recently unfolded during our family trip to beautiful Bali. As the founder of Kooshy Kids and a mum to two amazing kids, Mila (10) and Jack (8), I've always prioritised their health and safety while exploring the world. However, our recent encounter with Typhoid Fever has left me determined to spread awareness about this surprisingly common yet often overlooked illness.
For years, my family has been visiting Bali multiple times a year, and we've never experienced Bali Belly or any major health issues. So, when my daughter Mila began feeling unwell during our last trip, I initially brushed it off as tiredness from a week of non-stop fun with friends at our hotel in Seminyak. She complained of a headache and a sore tummy, which led me to believe it was nothing more than exhaustion.
To provide her some relief, I gave Mila Panadol and encouraged her to drink plenty of water. Unfortunately, her condition worsened the next day, with her complaining of an even more terrible headache. Concerned, I suspected appendicitis due to the severity of her stomach pains. With her unable to tolerate any pressure on her tummy, I decided it was time to seek medical help.
We quickly made our way to a medical clinic, situated conveniently next to our hotel. The doctor examined Mila and mentioned a few possibilities, one of which caught me by surprise: Typhoid Fever. I thought, "Surely not!" and assumed it was just a stomach flu. However, to confirm her suspicions, the doctor recommended a blood test. It was Mila's first-ever blood test, and understandably, she was terrified.
Within a few hours, the results were back—impressively fast. The doctor messaged me, confirming my worst fears: Mila had indeed contracted Typhoid Fever. Along with the prescription for antibiotics, the doctor kindly shared a list of recommended foods to avoid.
I wasted no time getting the antibiotics and starting Mila on them. At first, it seemed like she was responding positively, but soon enough, violent vomiting and uncontrollable diarrhea struck. The entire night was spent battling this relentless onslaught. By morning, exhaustion had taken its toll on all of us.
Cleaning buckets and desperately requesting fresh sheets and towels, I found solace in the doctor's consistent support and care. Even when she wasn't on duty, she continued to check in on Mila via WhatsApp, displaying a level of compassion that left me truly grateful.
Mila woke up the next day with depleted energy levels and excruciating stomach pain once again. The ondansetron we were given for relief had lost its efficacy. The doctor, informed of our situation by her colleague, suggested an intravenous (IV) injection to alleviate the pain. Despite her fear, Mila bravely agreed, stating she would do anything to relieve her from the agonising stomach pain.
Within just one hour of receiving the IV injection, Mila's condition significantly improved. Although she has been fatigued in the days since, overall, her health has steadily improved, and we're grateful to be on the road to recovery.
In light of our experience, I took to social media to share our story, and the response was astonishing. Numerous individuals recounted their own encounters with Typhoid Fever, or knew of others who had faced it within the past six months while in Bali. This prompted me to dive deeper into research, and I found it crucial to spread awareness about the current prevalence of this illness.
So, what is Typhoid Fever, exactly? It is a bacterial infection caused by Salmonella typhi, which spreads through contaminated food and water. Poor sanitation, inadequate hygiene practices, and consuming contaminated food or drinks can lead to its transmission. Bali, like any other tourist destination, is not immune to such risks.
According to recent statistics, the number of Typhoid Fever cases in Bali has been on the rise. However, it is disheartening to note that there is currently no specific recommendation for Typhoid vaccination on the Smart Traveller Australia website, nor any mention of Typhoid being a moderate risk in Bali.
If you have a Bali trip planned, I strongly advise visiting your GP or travel doctor prior to your departure. It's crucial to make an informed decision that takes into account your individual circumstances. During your consultation, if you're open to it, consider discussing available vaccinations and their potential benefits for you and your family's health.
Let our experience serve as a wake-up call, prompting us all to take necessary precautions to protect ourselves and our loved ones. As a responsible traveller and a parent, I have made the decision to ensure our family is vaccinated against Typhoid Fever before embarking on our future adventures. I will also be extremely vigilant in ensuring that we are taking probiotics in the months leading up to our next trip and continue these throughout. In the past we have used Pono...it's a nice favoured powder that you can sprinkle on their cereal or just take straight up as a spoonful (I love the coconut flavour).
Remember, knowledge is power, and by sharing our experiences and staying informed, we can create a safer and healthier travel community. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that future trips are filled with incredible memories rather than unexpected health setbacks.

So, let's jump right in and uncover the top 10 common boo boos to avoid on your amazing voyage.
Neglecting Travel Insurance
Don't set sail without proper travel insurance, mate. Protect yourself from unexpected medical expenses, trip cancellations, and lost luggage. Look into different travel insurance options and pick a policy that suits your needs. Having insurance will give you peace of mind throughout your cruise journey, knowing you're covered if anything unexpected happens. Most travel insurance policies charge an additional fee to have cruise cover, so make sure that you select this option.
Forgetting to Budget for Extra Expenses
Your cruise fare might cover a bunch of things, but don't forget about the extra moolah you'll need. Think about optional excursions, specialty dining, spa treatments, and any shopping you might want to do onboard. Having a clear budget in mind will help you manage your spending and avoid any money surprises.
Indulging Excessively at the Buffet
The cruise ship's buffet has a smorgasbord of tasty options, but don't go overboard. It's tempting to try everything, but remember to balance your meals with healthier choices and save room for the specialty restaurants and delightful treats that await you during the cruise. I absolutely love the Royal Caribbean restaurants and always dine at one of their specialty restaurants for dinner. Book these well in advance. (Chops Grill and Jamie's Italian are my faves).
Booking Flights Too Close to Departure and Arrival:
Give yourself plenty of time by booking flights with a nice buffer before and after your cruise. Delays, cancellations, or other unexpected hiccups can happen, and having a few extra hours will save you from unnecessary stress and the risk of missing connections.
Ignoring the Safety Drill:
Safety drills are a big deal. Take the time to attend the mandatory safety drill to get familiar with emergency procedures, where to find life jackets, and how to evacuate if needed. Knowing what to do in case of an emergency will keep you safe and give you peace of mind throughout the trip. These days, most ships have an app where you can complete the in-app training and show that you're good to go. They won't set sail until everyone has done it.
Skipping Pre-Cruise Research:
Maximize your cruise experience by doing some homework beforehand. Check out the amenities, dining options, and onboard activities offered by your cruise line. Look into the shore excursions available at each port of call to ensure you don't miss out on any must-see attractions or cool experiences. Check the outlet of your cruise..even Australian cruises only have USA or EURO power points.
Overpacking:
When it comes to packing for your cruise, less is more, my friend. Focus on versatile clothes that you can mix and match for different outfits. Consider the weather at your destination and pack accordingly. Don't forget to leave space for souvenirs and goodies you might buy along the way. I take laundry sheets and a clothes line and wash my socks and jocks in the bathroom, dry on the balcony...you also need to avoid the laundry costs if there is no self-laundry on the ship, because its ridiculously expensive.
Missing Out on Pre-Purchase and Onboard Cruise Deals:
Don't miss the boat (pardon the pun lol) on the exclusive pre-cruise and onboard offers and promos for future cruises. Keep an eye on the daily newsletter or have a chat with the cruise staff to learn about discounted fares, cabin upgrades, or onboard credits for booking your next cruise while you're still onboard. It's a fantastic chance to secure your next cruise at a great price.
Not Considering Disembarkation Day:
Get ready for a smooth exit by packing your bags the night before and following the instructions provided by the cruise line. Settle any outstanding bills and review your onboard account to make sure everything's accurate. Keep important travel documents, ID, and any necessary paperwork within reach for a stress-free departure.
Booking Tours Directly with the Cruise Line:
While it's easy to book tours with the cruise line, consider checking out independent tour operators or organising your own excursions. This way, you can customise your experiences, join smaller groups, and save a ton of money. Do some research on reputable local tour operators in each port and read reviews to find the best options for your interests. Just make sure that any external tours are going to get you back to the ship on time...and likewise that you have plenty of time to meet them in then morning for the tour departure as getting off the ship can take some time (especially where there are tenders).
By avoiding these common cruise blunders and following these tips, you'll be all set for a fantastic and worry-free holiday at sea.
Pack smart, do your research, and make the most of every moment onboard.
Embrace the adventure, create awesome memories, and sail away with confidence. Bon voyage and happy cruising! x
]]>We all want to make a swift exit from the airport, clutching our luggage before the masses.
Well, get ready for some insider tips on how to turn that dream into reality. In this blog post, I'll spill the beans on unconventional strategies to boost your chances of snagging your bags ahead of others and bidding farewell to the airport in a flash.
Buckle up and prepare to become a luggage retrieval expert!
Be the Last to Check In: Believe it or not, checking in last can work in your favour. Bags are loaded onto the aircraft from front to back on bag carts. By being the final person to check in, your bags end up in the last cart, making them the first to be unloaded at your destination. Embrace your inner procrastinator and aim to check in last!
Fragile Sticker Magic: Here's a neat trick to give your bags an advantage. Ask the check-in representative to attach a fragile sticker to your bag. Fragile-marked bags are typically loaded later and emerge earlier at baggage claim. They also tend to receive extra care during handling. Keep in mind, though, that sometimes these stickers may go unnoticed. It's worth a shot to give your bags an early retrieval advantage.
Gate Check Your Bag: If you're willing to temporarily part ways with your carry-on bag, gate checking might be the way to go. Simply inquire with the airline if you can gate check your bag. This places your bag in the last position for loading and the first to be unloaded, giving you a head start at baggage claim. Just remember to remove any liquids or prohibited items, as gate-checked bags typically bypass security screening.
Travel Business or First Class: Want a foolproof way to ensure your bags arrive ahead of others? Consider booking a business or first-class flight. Yes, it's expensive and not an option for most, but these premium ticket holders enjoy priority treatment, including expedited baggage handling. Your bags are likely to be among the first to be unloaded, giving you a significant edge in the baggage claim hustle.
Join the Frequent Flyer Club: Another way to gain an advantage in the luggage game is by joining an airline's frequent flyer club. Many airlines offer priority baggage handling as a perk for their loyal members. Simply attach the priority tag provided by the club to your bag, and it will receive preferential treatment throughout the journey. As a Gold Qantas FF, they attach Business class tags to my bags even when I'm travelling economy and they almost always come out first.Same as a Gold Velocity Member. Reap the benefits of being a frequent flyer!
By embracing these unconventional strategies and thinking outside the box, you can enhance your chances of claiming your luggage first and dashing out of the airport with ease.
Keep in mind that each airline and airport may have their own unique systems, so results can vary. With a bit of luck and smart planning, you'll master the art of luggage retrieval.
Now, go and conquer the baggage claim area and embark on your travel adventures without delay!
In this blog I will dive into the wonderful world of family travel and uncover the undeniable benefits of hitting the road (and skies) with your little explorers in tow. As a proud parent to Mila, the 10-year-old hurricane, and Jack, the 9-year-old superhero, I can tell you firsthand that the rewards of travelling with kids are truly priceless. Trust me, my kids have racked up more plane miles than they have cooked dinners – and that's saying something!
Bonding and Family Connections:
There's nothing quite like the shared experiences of travelling to strengthen family bonds. From witnessing their awe-struck faces at iconic landmarks to engaging in heartwarming conversations during long car rides, every moment spent exploring together creates lifelong memories and deepens our connection. We have daily debriefs about what their favourite thing that day was and what they are most looking forward to tomorrow.
Educational Adventures:
Travelling is a classroom without walls. Admittedly they have missed quite a bit of school, but after 2 years of homeschooling during COVID, it doesn't worry me at all. In the past year alone, our globetrotting escapades have exposed Mila and Jack to diverse cultures, languages, and historical sites. They've immersed themselves in the vibrant colours of Bali's markets, learned about the marine wonders of the Great Barrier Reef, and soaked up the sun on the golden beaches of the Bahamas. These experiences have expanded their horizons and ignited a thirst for knowledge.
Nurturing Resilience and Adaptability:
Navigating unfamiliar territories and overcoming challenges is a valuable life lesson for kids. Whether it's braving new foods, adjusting to different time zones, or adapting to unexpected situations, our adventures have certainly helped to teach Mila and Jack to be resilient, flexible, and open-minded.
Creating Lasting Memories:
The laughter, the shared adventures, and the "remember when" stories – these are the treasures we collect during our travels. Mila and Jack can recount tales of snorkelling with colourful fish in the Bahamas and building sandcastles on Australia's pristine beaches. These memories become a tapestry of their childhood, woven with threads of joy, discovery, and togetherness.
So, if you're contemplating embarking on your own family adventures, don't hesitate! The benefits of travelling with kids far outweigh the occasional tantrum or airport delay. As a seasoned traveller with Mila and Jack by my side, I can assure you that the experiences, connections, and personal growth that come with exploring the world as a family are simply priceless. Those are years you'll never get back so it's the perfect time to step outside of your comfort zone and make some memories.
Grab your passports (check their expiry), pack your sense of adventure, and let the journey begin!
Life is an incredible adventure, and travelling with your kids only adds more laughter, love, and memories along the way. Bon voyage!
Don't forget to pack your Kooshy Kids essentials for a truely stress-free travel experience!

But hey, have you ever paused to think about that innocent-looking seat back pocket on the plane? Trust me, it's a germ minefield!
In this blog post, we're going to uncover the dirty truth about seat back pockets and why you should steer clear of them. So, buckle up and get ready to bid farewell to those pesky germs!
The Neglected Germ Zone:
Now, we know tray tables often get a bad rap, but let's give some thought to the seat back pocket, shall we? Sure, flight attendants do their best to clear out the rubbish, but do you really think they have time to thoroughly clean and disinfect them between flights? Highly unlikely!
Imagine this: people stuffing dirty tissues, wipes, food scraps, sick bags, nappies, and even socks into those pockets. Gross, right? Oh, and let's not forget those adventurous souls who dare to rest their bare feet on them. Yuck! It's like a germ playground hiding in plain sight!

Germ Invasion Everywhere:
Now, hold your hand sanitiser tight, because seat back pockets aren't the only guilty parties when it comes to germ-infested areas on a plane. Oh no, from the toilets to your tray tables, there's an army of bacteria and viruses lurking around. Studies have revealed that seat headrests harbour Staphylococcus, E. coli, and Hemolytic bacteria. As for seat back pockets, they tested positive for aerobic bacteria, mold, coliforms, and even E.coli! Yikes!
Fight Back Against Germs:
So, how can we defend ourselves in this invisible war against germs? Hand sanitizer and disinfectant wipes to the rescue, my friends! Be sure to sanitise your hands frequently and wipe down all surfaces around you, including the seat, tray tables, seatbelt, window shade, overhead buttons, screen, and armrests. Leave no germ unturned!

Air travel with kids can be a daunting experience, but with a little preparation, it can be an enjoyable and stress-free adventure for the entire family. Whether you're flying with a baby, toddler, or older child, there are several things you can do to make the journey more comfortable and entertaining for everyone. In this blog post, we'll explore eight fun and easy tips and tricks for air travel with kids. So, buckle up and get ready for a fantastic flight!
Planning ahead is crucial when travelling with kids. Do your research on the flight and destination, and pack accordingly. Ensure you have all the necessary documents, such as passports and visas. Check with your airline for specific requirements or restrictions. Don't forget to pack snacks, drinks, entertainment, necessary medications, and comfort items for your child.
Air travel can be uncomfortable for adults, let alone kids. There are several ways to ensure your child stays comfortable throughout the journey. Firstly, the Kooshy Kids Kloud is an inflatable backrest-type cushion that cocoons your child, offering complete comfort during the flight. It provides support and a cozy spot for your child to relax.
Additionally, for children under 2 without their own seat, the Kloud can be used by parents on their laps as a cushion, providing both comfort and convenience with a hands-free option.
Another way to keep your child comfortable is to dress them in layers. Airplanes can be unpredictable in terms of temperature, so dressing your child in easily adjustable clothing will allow you to add or remove layers as needed.
Keeping kids entertained during a flight is essential for a stress-free journey. The Ultimate Travel Kit by Kooshy Kids is a fantastic option that includes a variety of activities and games suitable for kids of all ages. From colouring books to stickers and puzzles, this compact kit is easy to bring on the plane and will keep your child occupied and happy throughout the flight.
Take advantage of the in-flight amenities and activities to keep your child engaged and entertained. Many airlines offer kid-friendly options such as colouring books, activity packs, or even special children's TV shows and channels. Check with the flight attendants for the available options and request any activity kits or materials they may have for children.
Additionally, iPads loaded with games, interactive colouring apps, and downloaded shows or movies (Netflix and Stan are great options) are a fantastic choice. Enhance their entertainment experience with the new Kooshy Band headband headphones. These wireless headphones are soft, comfortable, and come in cute animal designs. Plus, you can now purchase a receiver from Kooshy Kids to connect them to the inflight entertainment, providing an even more immersive experience for your child.
Hungry kids are unhappy kids, so be sure to pack a variety of child-friendly snacks. Fruit snacks, cheese and crackers, trail mix, veggie sticks, and sandwiches/wraps are all excellent choices. These snacks will not only satisfy hunger pangs but also add a touch of comfort to the travel experience. Remember to consider any dietary restrictions or allergies your child may have when selecting snacks.
Takeoff and landing can be intimidating for kids, especially if it's their first time flying. Prepare your child by explaining what to expect and how it will feel. Encourage them to chew on a lolly to help relieve the pressure in their ears. This simple tip can make a big difference and alleviate any discomfort during these critical moments.
Accidents happen, especially when travelling with little ones. Be prepared for spills, nappy blowouts, or unexpected messes by packing extra clothes, wipes, and plastic bags. Having these essentials readily available will save you from unnecessary stress and help keep everyone feeling fresh and clean throughout the journey.
Getting some rest during the flight is important, especially on long journeys. Create a cozy sleeping environment for your child by bringing a small blanket or a soft travel pillow. If your child has a favorite stuffed animal or comfort item, don't forget to pack it too.
For added comfort, consider using the Kooshy Kids Kooshion or the Kloud as an inflatable backrest or footrest for your child. They provide extra support and can help your little one gets a more restful sleep during the flight. For a limited time Kooshy Kids offers these in a bundle (The Little Travellers Bundle) which ensure you a significant saving.
Air travel with kids is an adventure in itself, so embrace it and stay flexible. Things may not always go as planned, and flights can be delayed or disrupted. It's important to maintain a positive attitude and go with the flow. Keeping calm and being flexible will help create a more relaxed atmosphere for your child.
Remember, the journey is part of the adventure, and with the right preparation and mindset, air travel with kids can be a memorable and enjoyable experience for the whole family.
With these eight fun and easy tips for air travel with kids, you'll be well-prepared to have a fantastic journey with your little ones. From planning ahead and keeping kids comfortable to bringing entertainment and packing snacks, these strategies will help make your flight stress-free and enjoyable.
Don't forget to embrace the adventure, stay flexible, and make the most out of your travel experience. Bon voyage and have a wonderful time exploring the world with your family!
