Top 10 Things to Pack When Flying with Kids

Travelling with kids can be both exhilarating and challenging. As a mum of two and the owner of Kooshy Kids, I’ve had my fair share of travel adventures and learned a thing or two about making the journey smoother. Ensuring you have the right items packed can make a world of difference in keeping your little ones comfortable, entertained, and happy throughout the journey.

Here are my top 10 things to pack when flying with kids, along with some must-have travel products to enhance your experience.

1. Snacks and Drinks

Keeping kids fed and hydrated is crucial during a flight. I always pack a variety of healthy snacks and a refillable water bottle to keep hunger and thirst at bay.

Include a mix of fruits, nuts, crackers, and a treat or two to keep things interesting, but I try to avoid sugary snacks and drinks – trust me, you don’t want to deal with a sugar rush at 30,000 feet! Instead, opt for snacks that provide sustained energy.

2. Travel Pillow

A good travel pillow can make nap time on the plane much more comfortable.

Avoid bulky pillows that take up too much space; compact and inflatable options are ideal for travel.

For kids the Kooshy Kids Mini Travellers Dream Kit provides a neck pillow that supports your child’s head and neck, ensuring they sleep soundly during the flight. For adults our inflatable neck pillow is perfect. It is super compact and inflates with only one breath.

3. Entertainment

Keeping kids entertained is essential. I always bring along their iPads loaded with their favourite movies (downloaded from Netflix), shows, and games. Don’t forget headphones, like our best-selling kid-friendly Kooshy Bands Headphones,..

The Kooshy Kids Travel Tray is perfect for keeping your child entertained and their space tidy. It provides a clean, sanitary and organised space for activities and snacks.

I avoid relying solely on electronics; (see below for more on that).

4. Change of Clothes

Accidents happen, so it's wise to pack an extra set of clothes for your child and even for yourself. I also like to pack an extra set just in case my luggage is lost! Include a couple of plastic bags for any soiled items. Avoid overpacking; one change of clothes per person should suffice for the flight.

5. Comfort Items

Bring along a favourite blanket or stuffed animal to help your child feel secure and comfortable during the flight.

The Kooshy Kids Mini Travellers Dream Kit includes a plush blanket, foam neck pillow, eye mask, and earplugs, making it the perfect companion for a peaceful journey.

6. First Aid Kit
A small first aid kit with essentials like band-aids, antiseptic wipes, Vicks inhaler and children’s pain relievers can be a lifesaver.

Include any necessary medications your child might need, along with a copy of their medical information. Avoid large, cumbersome kits; a small, travel-sized kit will do the trick and save space.

7. Travel Documentation
Keep all your important documents, such as passports, boarding passes, and any necessary travel permissions, organised and easily accessible. It may be old school, but I use a document holder to keep everything in one place. Avoid keeping documents loose in your bag; they can easily get lost or damaged.
8. In-Flight Comfort

Long flights can be exhausting for kids. Ensure they have a comfortable place to rest.

The Self-Inflating Sky Bunk and Kooshy Kids Kooshion both transform any seat into a cosy sleeping spot for your child. They’re easy to inflate and provide a safe and comfortable space for them to sleep, making the journey more enjoyable for everyone. Avoid bringing items that are difficult to set up or take up too much space.

9. Hygiene Essentials
Pack a small bag with hygiene essentials like wet wipes, hand sanitiser, tissues, sanitary items and disposable bags for rubbish. A small toiletry bag can help keep everything organised and within easy reach. Avoid bringing full-sized bottles; travel-sized containers are more convenient and take up less space.
10. Toys and Games
Regardless if you are pro or anti screens, you can bring a few small toys or games to keep your child occupied during the flight.
Simple activities like colouring books, puzzles, and travel-sized board games can be great distractions.
The Kooshy Kids Ultimate Travel Kit includes a variety of these items, making it a perfect companion for keeping kids entertained on the go. Avoid bringing too many toys; select a few favourites that will keep your child engaged without overwhelming your carry-on.

Packing the right items can significantly enhance your travel experience when flying with kids. By being prepared and having the right products, you can ensure a smooth and enjoyable journey for the whole family.

Enhance your travel experience with products like the Kooshy Kids Kooshion, Kooshy Kids Travel Tray, and Self-Inflating Sky Bunk. These travel companions are designed to provide comfort, convenience, and peace of mind, ensuring your flight is smooth and enjoyable.
